Explore Egg Freezing

Resolve to explore egg freezing in the new year

Resolve to explore egg freezing in the new yearAs we say goodbye to 2022 and welcome 2023, many people will make resolutions like finding a new job, starting an exercise routine, or losing weight. Our Newport Beach fertility experts, Robert Anderson MD and Don Royster MD, applaud these efforts for self-improvement. We would also like to add a suggestion and recommend that our patients resolve to explore egg freezing options.

Getting ahead of your biological clock

Society has sent a message that women should have no trouble juggling their careers, relationships and children. Social media and pop culture promote the idea that having a baby in your 40s is easy. However, the reality of female reproduction is not so rosy.

Because women are born with all the eggs they will ever have, female fertility peaks for women in their late-20s and early-30s. A woman aged 40 or older only has about a 5% chance of conceiving each month. As a result, Dr. Anderson and Dr. Royster want to help you preserve your fertility and explore egg freezing.

What you should know as you explore egg freezing

With egg freezing, one of our doctors can retrieve your eggs during your peak fertility years. Through a flash-freezing process called vitrification, we will cryopreserve those eggs for use at a later date.

This type of fertility preservation can also provide peace of mind to women at risk of early menopause or those who must undergo chemotherapy.

A brief overview of the egg freezing process

Once you decide to explore egg freezing, your doctor will complete a full fertility work-up to assess your reproductive health. To begin the process, we will prescribe fertility medication to stimulate your ovaries and monitor you via bloodwork and ultrasounds. Once the follicles mature, you will return for the egg retrieval. We then freeze and store your eggs until the time is right for family planning.

At the Southern California Center for Reproductive Medicine, you will receive exemplary care from our medical experts. We can help you navigate the fertility preservation process. Contact our office for more information or to schedule an appointment with one of our Newport Beach fertility experts.
