Endometriosis Treatment

Find endometriosis treatment to help with infertility and other symptoms

The experienced doctors at our Southern California fertility center support women by providing endometriosis treatment and diagnosis. Endometriosis is a condition in which the tissue that typically lines the inside of the uterus grows outside of it. The tissue can interfere with the function of the ovaries and fallopian tubes. It can also sometimes cause cysts to form.

The symptoms of endometriosis to look out for

As endometriosis can cause discomfort and fertility issues, it’s important for women to understand the symptoms. By seeking treatment, women can bypass these symptoms and welcome a healthy baby.

  • Strong menstrual cramps
  • Heavy menstrual flow
  • Lower back aches
  • Painful urination or bowel movements
  • Discomfort during intercourse
  • Bloating
  • Constipation
  • Nausea

When a woman suspects she has endometriosis, she should visit our Southern California fertility center. One of our doctors will rely on various methods to make a diagnosis. These methods include a review of the woman’s medical history, an ultrasound and a pelvic exam. The doctor might also recommend a minimally invasive laparoscopic procedure.

Following a diagnosis, the doctor will work with the woman to make an effective endometriosis treatment plan.

How we provide endometriosis treatment

If a woman is not trying to become pregnant, we can often minimize her endometriosis symptoms with a medication like birth control pills. For a woman wanting to have a baby, there are a variety of treatments available.

Laparoscopy. This is a minimally invasive surgery that allows the doctor to remove endometrial implants and scar tissue that can interfere with ovulation, fallopian tube access and embryo implantation. Some women need this procedure multiple times throughout their reproductive years.

IUI, or intrauterine insemination. Another endometriosis treatment is IUI. This treatment involves the woman monitoring her ovulation and coming to our clinic the day after ovulation likely occurs. During this visit, the fertility doctor uses a catheter to insert sperm from the woman’s partner or a donor into her uterus.

IVF, or in vitro fertilization. If treatments like laparoscopy and IUI don’t lead to a pregnancy, our doctors might recommend IVF. This treatment consists of the woman taking ovulation induction medications while being regularly monitored at our clinic. When enough eggs mature, she undergoes an egg retrieval procedure. An embryologist then fertilizes the eggs with sperm from the woman’s partner or a donor. Then, the doctor transfers one of the resulting embryos to the woman’s uterus.

The team at our Southern California fertility center provides comprehensive support for women with endometriosis. With our help, women can overcome the discomfort of this condition and build their family. Contact us for more information about laparoscopy and other fertility treatments.
