"Thank you for taking a moment to read my story. Last January 08, after a routine annual exam and subsequent MRI, I found out I had uterine fibroids (one had grown rapidly and appeared the size of a cantaloupe). I am only 116 pounds. I had frequent urination and bowel discomfort and pain. I went to see many GYN Doctors who all looked at me and told me there was very little of my uterus left and a hysterectomy was the only option. I was absolutely devastated and fully against loosing my uterus. I went on the Internet and came across a fibroid blog. One of the women had a blog entry recommending a "Reproductive Endocrinologist". I went to see Dr. Edward Dourron in Aliso Viejo, California. He spent an hour and a half with me in consultation and listened to what was important to me. He said "I can remove your fibroids and return to you a fully intact, functional, uterus". I cried. I could not believe that he could save it, but he did. Surgery was performed at Hoag Memorial Hospital in Newport Beach, California June 5th 08. I am now fibroid free, seven weeks post-op, and doing very well. Dr. Dourron removed a total of 13 fibroids. He found clusters and clusters of them and it took hundreds and hundreds of stitches to close. He patiently placed each one and surgery lasted under 3 hours. I wanted so much to be able to give some peace and comfort to those of you who are reading this and have fibroids that are giving you problems. Dr. Dourron has over 18 years of experience removing uterine tumors. His surgery skill level is something amazing as he sutured my uterus on 8 levels and I had a total blood loss of 100cc's which is about 1/4th of a cup and minimal for this type of surgery. He did it all without Pitressin, which is a vasopressin commonly injected into the uterus to minimize bleeding and, just to be safe, I did not want this drug as it can have some cardiac side effects. I just had my second menstrual cycle and, although I had some cramping, the bleeding was very light. For those of you that make the decision to see Dr. Dourron, you will have comfort and relief of knowing that you will have the best surgeon I was able to find in my own extensive research, and someone who really cares that you keep your uterus and that it functions properly when he is finished. After on and half years seeing and consulting with at least ten gynecologists and oncologists no one could decide what treatment course to follow. This was very distressing, thim consuming and close to seriously depressing. They were all lacking confidence, or overconfident to the point of severe arrogance. Some said hospital stays for 3 days to a week were normal. Others told me they might injure my intestines or my urethra. If this happened during the outpatient surgery they said I would need to immediately be transferred and admitted via ambulance to a hospital as an emergency patient. Others just had no clue what to say or do.
What happened to me in the past year was unbelievable. I visited multiple doctors and had numberous tests and procedures done with no results. No definite treatment plan was presented and multiple ones that were not similar were even more confusing. I was tired and frustrated of going to all these offices in Southern California, not to mention the wasted time. I even went to another country seeking answers and found none. Every month I was losing a year from an IVF point of view.
My husband and I are in the medical field, my father-in-law is retired gynecologist, my father is a retired doctor, and my mother-in-law is a registered nurse. We have a very good understanding of the medical field. My husband and I are surigcal dentists; we have a major dental implant surgical center in Orange County. Our close friends are cardiologists, nephrologists, and radiologists. I still had a difficult time finding a skillful and knowledgeable surgeon with your confidence, patience, and attention to detail. We are very fortunate that we finally found you.
Please use this letter wherever and whenever possible to let other women with problems like I had to hopefully not have to go through what happened to me.
Only three days after my laparoscopy, the procedure you performed, I feel very strong, alert, and have minimal pain without medication. The procedure I need every doctor told me was impossible to do with a laparoscopy.
YOU DID IT!
They all said I need a major laparotomy. This procedure they indicated had high complications of intestinal injury, left ovarian removal and major complications were the normal expectations of this procedure, they all said.
I am sure it would have been much easier and quicker in such a complicated case to do an incision and do a laparotimy procedure. I know you went out of your way to accomplish what no other doctor said was possible. I will never
forget the hard work you did for me and your skills that accomplished and resulted in minimal pain and removal of my cyst immediately after my surgery.
My husband and I also learned a lot from you and were very impressed with the treatment you, your staff, and your surgical center extended to us. The initial contact with you and your excellent, highly trained, and very nice staff made the entire experience we had with a very difficult situation very comfortable.
