IVF Cost at Southern California Center for Reproductive Medicine
We believe that an IVF cycle should be conducted in a manner that maximizes the chance of success and that the price for this should be fair. We therefore have not changed the price of IVF in our program in several years. We also do not attempt to deceive patients with financial plans that are unrealistic or that benefit us more than them. We feel that since the costs associated with infertility are a challenge for most couples, they should only pay for what they need and should get what they pay for.
Global Fee Structure
Therefore, we have adopted a global fee structure. This means that one inclusive price is charged for the IVF cycle.
This price includes:
- All ultrasound visits
- Blood tests (however many are required)
- Physicians’ fees
- Anesthesia for the egg retrieval
- Surgery center facility fee
- Laboratory fees
The fee for fertility treatment does not include:
- The cost of medications since medication requirements vary among individuals.
- Extra costs for special laboratory charges that may or may not be needed such as ICSI, embryo freezing and embryo biopsy. We have priced these special procedures fairly so that the total cost is not increased by much if they are needed.
The global fee covers the entire cycle completely. If a second cycle is required, the global fee is reduced by 10%. A third cycle will cost 15% less. In this way, the couple will only pay for what they need, yet will save some money if multiple treatment cycles are needed.
NEW: Three Cycle Package Plan
Recently we have developed another option for our patients who have expressed interest in a 3 Cycle Package Plan. In contrast to the 3 cycle plans offered by other centers, our plan involves paying for 3 cycles up front, but if a pregnancy is achieved from the first or second cycle, money is refunded for the cycles that were not used. Even if a pregnancy results from the third cycle, the cost is still less than if 3 cycles were paid for at the regular price. We have had a very positive response from our patients regarding this plan because it is much fairer than the 3 cycle plans where the center keeps all of the money even if it only takes one or two cycles for pregnancy to occur. We believe that this plan is consistent with our other policies that treat our patients with the respect that they deserve, especially when the finances are a main concern.
Our patients who have previously participated in these other “low cost” plans have told us that they definitely appreciate and prefer our approach to what they were erroneously led to believe were ways of saving money with these other plans. We believe that this is an honest and fair way to determine the cost of fertility treatment and we will continue to work with our patients to make the excellent care we provide as affordable as possible.
